Policy related to AAC in education

It was not possible to find policies issued by the Ministry of Education at the Italian national level. The following research is
based on the sources of nationally recognised bodies such as: ISAAC Italy (International Society of Augmentative Alternative
Communication), the Centro Sovrazonale di Comunicazione Aumentativa di Milano e Verdello (CSCA).

However, it was possible to find several courses on AAC recognised by MIUR (Ministry of Education and Merit), a sign that AAC is an increasingly widespread practice in Italy, studied and applied by teachers.

Application of AAC in your country

Italian schools have made great strides, offering much wider physical and virtual spaces for the CAA approach. Today, the value of inclusion and the importance of making a continuous and increasing effort to open up to all pupils, leaving no one behind, has finally been understood. The problem encountered today in classrooms throughout our regions is no longer one of ideology, therefore, but of a practical nature: classrooms still lack specific books for this type of lesson and do not have sufficient resources to be able to purchase them.

However, several Italian schools are implementing courses recognised by the Ministry of Education and Merit for teachers concerning AAC.
