What does your profession involve?

My profession involves teaching to children from 3 to 6 in a Montessorian way.
Which means using a lot of practical and sensitive material.
I am not trained to deal with children who need alternative methods of communication like AAC.
But these methods could be useful with a child who doesn’t want to interact, or may have learning difficulties in speaking or reading letters.

Are you familiar with AAC methods? Since when?

I have never heard about AAC methods before. I’m not familiar with these methods.

In which situations do you use AAC methods?

Which are the benefits of using AAC methods?

In which situation have you seen these benefits?

Do you think AAC methods are well known in the educational field in your country?

No, I don’t think these methods are well known in Switzerland as none of the teachers of our school have heard about them in the educational field.
But I’ve read that this way of learning is developed in Switzerland within structures which help disabled people, or people dealing with autism.

Do you think that AAC-related practices should be improved? Why?

Do you have any resources to share (websites, portals, books…)?

Advices to implement AAC methods at school?

Montessori pedagogy use a lot of kinesthesic materials like “pearls” or “sandpaper numbers and letters” for example to learn counting /reading.
Maybe this kind of material could be used as AAC in mathematics.
Also, our 3-period-lessons (Montessori technics) with vocabulary cards can be used with all kind of children to build vocabulary
and associate a word (abstract) with an image (concrete).
